How to Repair Contemporary Upholstery Fabric

Posted on Furniture

Contemporary upholstery fabric – Repair of small holes, such as cigarette burns or tears in your furniture or car upholstery is usually a temporary solution unless you replace the entire section of fabric. Two methods involve the repair adhesive and a patch either fibers or fabric. Matching upholstery color as accurately as possible is the key to a measurable repair.

Create fibers that can be used to fill the hole in the contemporary upholstery fabric of the sofa, chair or car seat.  Using a marker to color the foam or padding on the bed, chair or car seat directly under the hole, where there is no hole in the padding. Cut wool carpet padding into fine pieces with scissors. Press the padding splinters into the hole. Mix padding laser and adhesive quickly with a toothpick. Discard toothpicks. Press shredded padding and glue into the hole with a screwdriver in about 10 seconds.

Squirt glue the patch on the pillow. Poke patches edge back under the whole edge with tweezers. Squirt glue the edges of the contemporary upholstery fabric hole, being careful not to get glue on the visible side of the fabric patch. Press contemporary upholstery fabric hole edges down firmly on the patch underneath.
